The Roseate Reading

The Roseate Reading is a preferred venue for bespoke weddings, receptions and celebrations in Berkshire.

Set in a magnificently restored, Grade II listed Edwardian mansion, originally built in 1911 as Shire Hall for Berkshire County Council, The Roseate Reading blends old-world charm with contemporary luxury: wide hallways, vaulted ceilings and a chandelier of 86,000 Italian glass beads cascading through the stairwell.

The chamber where the council once sat is now Eden, its walls hand-painted with flowers around the original fireplace. Around it are 55 rooms and suites, Aheli Spa, a private cinema and The Reading Room Restaurant & Bar: everything a couple could need for their wedding weekend, under one roof.

Every couple, and every vision of the perfect day, is different; we have never hosted two weddings quite alike. Ceremonies & wedding breakfasts

Small and intimate weddings

From the intimacy of the Library or the Cellar to Eden, with its hand-painted walls, our event rooms make a small wedding feel complete rather than scaled down: your vows, the wedding breakfast and the speeches, without leaving the building.

Eden

Once the Berkshire County Council chamber, its walls covered in hand-painted flowers around the original fireplace. Ceremonies for up to 50, wedding breakfasts for 40.

Library

Large windows onto Forbury Square and an elegant fireplace make it warm and light. Ceremonies for up to 20, with the adjoining Lounge for drinks before dinner.

Cellar

Contemporary and private, with deep, comfortable chairs, for an intimate wedding dinner of up to 14.

Upstage Mini Cinema

Speeches and a slideshow on the big screen, or a film the night before to settle the nerves.

Wedding reception venue

Wedding receptions, into the evening

For the evening, The Reading Room Restaurant & Bar becomes your wedding reception venue, for up to 105 guests. Canapés, small plates or a generous buffet keep everyone dancing, the bar pours cocktails, and the Whisky Room's 60-plus blends and single malts wait next door. For outdoor moments, there are drinks in the Secret Garden courtyard after the ceremony, and photographs in Forbury Gardens and the Abbey Ruins, just across the road.

55 rooms and suites span the classic Roseate building and the contemporary House, each with Penhaligon's amenities and a Nespresso machine; rooms in the House open directly onto Aheli Spa and the gym. Join us the night before the big day, unwind at Aheli Spa, and wake on the morning already there.
